Sinners Behind The Lattice: Rabia Hanım, The Gunslinger’s Daughter

Site-Based Theatre - Approx 60’ no intermission.

Secrets buried centuries ago in the waters of the Bosphorus and the darkness of its dungeons resurface at an auction in Asmalımescit.

Adapted for the stage by Lara Lakay from the writings of Istanbul chronicler Reşad Ekrem Koçu, this site-specific production introduces Rabia Hanım, whose kingdom of desire defies the moral conventions of early 17th-century Istanbul, and two young lovers, Yusuf and Letaif, who fall victim to her audacious fantasies. At the historic Phebus Auction House, objects of desire and sin go under the hammer as contemporary storytelling theatre and live music open the doors onto a brutal and hypnotic Istanbul cabaret.
